Born from a pandemic songwriting binge, Rich Horton (Marcus Noise, Rift Magazine) decided to put together a band to record his songs. After that, the vision became much more prominent, bringing in Laura Benett (Red Pens) on drums and Darren Harff (American Paint, The Revamps) on guitar.
Tragic Hands has taken on influences from all over the stylistic map to create a familiar but unique sound. From the Minneapolis post-punk sound to late seventies early eighties rock.
Jams turned into more songs, a cohesive sound emerged, and before they all knew it, ten songs were ready to go, and after a few live performances, they headed into the studio.
Tragic Hands went into the renowned Terrarium Studio with Jason Orris and tracked the ten songs in two days. Orris finished them with masterful mixing, Jacques Wait finely tuned the tracks in mastering, and Pillow on the Sofa was a complete album.
While no tracks specifically call out the pandemic, it did influence, and Horton’s lyrics stream fictional feelings and observations about life in general.
However, this album shouldn’t take too much emotional toll on you. It’s a rock and roll album. It’s how to have fun and live life despite what is happening around you. With two band members over 50 and one very close to turning 50, it’s all about good songs and hoping people will enjoy them as well.
